History

Springfield appeared not long after Missouri officially became a state in 1821. The 50 acres that served as the humble beginnings of the community were sold in 1833, and the community flourished. The town known as Springfield was incorporated as soon as 1838. Springfield’s long history includes being a place of significance in the Civil War, helping to give birth to the Wild West era, and being the birthplace of Route 66. There are so many more stories associated with Springfield that we couldn’t do justice in this short description. We encourage you to visit one of the city’s local museums to learn more about its rich history.
